Toxic Heart by Corganda

Toxic Heart is another of ponies from the same alternate universe, post-apocalyptic setting as Glory Dawn, and in fact is from the same clan that rescued Glory originally. Toxic is an odd character for me, as she is one of the few who is slowly revealing things about herself to me instead of me creating details for her. So she is one of the characters who has more of a mind of her own.

One of the details Toxic Heart has revealed to me is that she is an older pony, one who has given birth to many foals as well as seen many loved ones pass over her years. I suppose her age may seem obvious from her gray mane and tail, but I originally believed that to be from exposure to radiation or some other element than time. The color that is left in her hair is dyed, and represents the number of children she has given birth to that still live, with the black separating each individual.

Toxic Heart’s cutie mark is the general biohazard symbol, with the inner circle of the symbol being replaced with a heart, and this symbol rests on a neon green blob. This representative of Toxic’s main specialty, which is forming bonds with ponies despite the adverse circumstances she lives in. She goes out of her way to make ponies feel wanted and appreciated, along with acting as impartial counsel to anyone who needs help. While generally quiet, Toxic does have a calming presence for other ponies just from her ability to listen without judging. When she does speak, her advice is usually quite wise. Toxic Heart herself is also able to withstand higher degrees than normal of deadly radiation, as well as having some immunity to other poisons.

While Toxic Heart is a pegasus, at home she didn’t end up flying much. She held a role as one of the matriarchs of her band of ponies, and thus normally needed to stay at their homebase to guide the herd and keep any political infighting from breaking out. However, currently Toxic Heart has abandoned this role in favor of helping another pony whom she found to be in great need of assistance. Shed of the responsibility of managing a large clan to help this pony, Toxic is in some ways enjoying a retirement as well as new adventure.

I want to get back into writing and detailing my characters, so hopefully this will be the start of a series of posts.

The pony above is named Glory Dawn. I’d been sort of wanting such a pony for little while, and managed to get a design last night. 

As one might notice, Dawn is a magical construct, essentially a golem, with a body designed similar to a ball jointed doll. She lives in a different dimension to the MLP:FIM setting, one that is more post-apocalyptic in nature. As a pony who is not alive in the classic sense, Dawn’s main function in the world is to scout other areas that normal ponies cannot normally access safely, such as areas with high amounts of radiation, poisonous atmosphere, etc. 

While this is useful for the area she lives in, she was not expressly created for this purpose, at least as far as she knows. Her body was found abandoned and deactivated by a different group of scouting ponies. Her body was taken back to their homebase, and over time with a bit of experimental magic she was eventually revived, albeit with only disjointed memories of what happened before she went offline.

Her body is made of a light but sturdy material, however she still acts in a somewhat delicate manner as she no longer remembers what she can do to fix herself should she become broken, aside from relying on unicorns for magical repairs. Since she is not made of a heavier material like porcelain, clay or metal, she is able to fly when she has her wings attached. When she is staying at homebase in their cramped quarters, it is not uncommon to see Dawn without her wings. The wings slip and click into the ball joints at her shoulders, so the joints themselves do not come out.

Along with her wings, her mane and tail can also be easily removed and changed to other styles or types should Dawn, or anyone else, desire. Her natural body color is the rosy and peach colors, and Dawn has painted on the zebra stripes, pink hooves, and cutie mark herself. She doesn’t consider herself vain, but she does try to take great care with her appearance so that she does not look damaged.

Dawn herself is rather reserved or distant, as she knows so little about herself and the post-apocalyptic world she lives in is rather strange to her. She finds fascination in some of the littlest and most mundane parts of life, and has quite a bit of curiosity about what it is like to actually be alive. However due to not wanting to accidentally cause harm to her body, she generally shies away from a lot of typical interaction with others, choosing instead to observe others from afar.
